【AIP学粹集】英语写作：DO YOU AGREE OR DISAGREE?（一）

Thanks to the fact that the economy develops steadily, an increasing number of electronic products appear now. Views towards the phenomenon vary from person and person. Someone argue that reading story books is certainly beneficial to children‘s learning process, while others maintain that television shows and the computer games do serve as alternative sources of education. For my perspective, I tend to agree with the former point of view.

First of all, the story book is informative and full of wisdom. Reading is a kind of ways fundamental to children’s intellectual and emotional development. The famous literary works are the fruits of painstaking labor of the masters. They enable kids to know more essential knowledge and the profound truth. At the same time, reading books is capable of enlarging youngster’s horizon. Children are naïve and innocent. The fairy tales and fables are able to assist them to develop the imaging ability. It is advantageous for excessing the creativity. In addition, the content of the story books are usually positive, which assists the psychological development of kids. Besides, reading can improve children’s language skills and enhance their abilities to write. During the learning process, children will increase their vocabulary. They are more likely to encounter new words.

Equally important, reading story books will promote children to rethink, self-inspire and influence their behaviors. When youngsters feel lost, confused and afraid of the future, they are able to get the mental power from the books. The spirits and the qualities of the characters in the novels often encourage people to get the courage again and fight with the predicament. Furthermore, the story books can not only bring laughter, but also render thoughts, thus arousing sympathy of the readers.

However, it is true that watching television and playing computer games can be a modern and distinctive educators, as well as provide excellent ways for people to enjoy entertainment, but they still have some negative effects. At present, the shows with violence frequently appear in the television, even in the cartoon, which may adversely affect children, for they are immature and cannot tell right from wrong. Moreover, many teenagers indulge in those two activities. The television drama and the computer games are good at catching children’s eyes and tempt them to spend more time on the entertainment, causing it harder for them to concentrate in academic studies.

In conclusion, parents are responsible for encouraging children to do more reading instead of watching television or playing the computer games, for the latter entertainment may distract children while the former one can be a life-long hobby which assists to cultivate children’s literary and psychological development.
