R:Ross Hulbert (From Falmouth International Office)
We found these students at AIP are, have a really, they are really strong for all the different subject areas. Say, somewhere like Falmouth, we offer such a variety of creative subjects. But the AIP students don’t all abide for any one course. So it’s not like if you study at AIP, you can only do fine art.We have applications for graphic design, fine art, and architecture. And this strengthens the portfolio and strengthens the work that we received from AIP students. It’s very… very …strong
And our academies in Falmouth havereally good confidence that when I tell them that this is an application from aGAFA student they are already very likely to make an offer, ‘cause they’ve seenlots of applications from students last year and the year before.
So I think AIP really prepares students well for aninternational education in the UK, so makes us very happy to come herethroughout the year and work with the students.
Well, another thing that’s different about how you get into Falmouth University, which is the most important for us, is your portfolio and your work in which we’ll be able to see your creative journey as whatever type of artists you are, whenever type of your creation you are. Say, if you are going to traditional university, you will know you will have to get top marks in your exams, that will probably be all they want to see.
While at Falmouth, we’ll want you tograduate well from AIP course. But that in itself won’t be enough. We’ll wantto see your portfolio, and that’s why we’ll come to AIP, maybe two or threetimes a year. And I usually come with academics from Falmouth or other designcourses. And I really work with students to ensure that what they are includingin their portfolios is really true to their skills and really shows off theirabilities to the best that they can be. So it’s not like exams. So when yousubmit your portfolio in mail in June, you should hopefully catch a lot offeedback from Falmouth and other optional universities I’m sure about.
Lots of feedback so you know that it’sgonna be well received and it’s not just gonna get rejected or told that it’snot relevant. So for us, that’s really important. So if students in some casesmay not be that gifted academically, and…if their portfolios were strong, wecould make as much allowances as possible, cause we want the best illustratorsand the best graphic designers.
Weare lese interested potentially in that academic grades. But the other goodthing about AIP, if you come to study in the UK, the one thing that we have toensure is students’ English language. So you need to have you IELTS level for6.0 for an undergraduate degree. But we have pre-sessional courses. So if youare slightly below that, that’s no problem. We can accept you to 5.0 and aboveand help them with that to work in advance of the course starting.
But that’s something we need to be clear on, causethat’s not Falmouth, that’s the government in the UK. So all students will needto do that. But together with the AIP program here, which prepares studentsvery well, our pre-sessional and hopefully working with students throughout theyear. We won’t get to the situation where that’s the problem for the end of theyear. We have lots and lots of support for English language. So that’s for youto think. Portfolio and language, that’s two things students should reallyconcentrate on the thing.

OK. Well, Falmouth University is a bit different as far as we are specialist art university. So that means, like AIP, all students at Falmouth have to decide to come for creative subjects, so whether it’s that graphic design, interior design, architecture, performance, fine art, illustration, everyone of that specialist art community is studying for creative subjects. That means all of the facilities in Falmouth are useful and relevant to you regardless what you are studying. So you don’t need to choose one subject and only study that in isolation that you might do at traditional university. And we are the top grand art university in the whole country.
So we work very closely withindustries through three of these courses and 95% of our students have a jobwithin six months after graduating.
Say, if you know you want to be agraphic designer or you know you want to be an illustrator, it’s a great placeto come and learn the skills which actually get yourself a job. And that’s whyit’s different to a traditional university.
